Citing a private PDF knowledge base
Knowledge-base citations should reveal enough evidence to review a claim without turning a private document library into a public download service.
From PDF to searchable passages
After upload, CiteAnything extracts document text and page references for retrieval. Conversion can fail for damaged, encrypted, image-only, or unsupported files; the interface reports that failure instead of pretending the document is searchable.
Page-level evidence
A knowledge-base citation connects the answer to an exact passage and page number when the parser can determine one. Review the passage against the original document before using it in consequential work.
The public/private boundary
A public evidence page can show the quoted passage and document metadata needed to inspect the claim. It does not expose the complete private PDF or a private object-storage URL.
Note: Only upload documents you are authorized to process and quote. A technical privacy boundary does not grant publication rights.
If conversion is unavailable
Remove or replace the affected document, confirm it opens locally, and try a text-based PDF. Where metered conversion was attempted but unavailable, the product reports the outcome and applicable usage adjustment in the interface.
